A Devotional: "I See Trees"...........
"I see people; they look like trees walking around."
In Mark chapter 8, Jesus heals a blind man. This was one of those weird healings. Weird as in, Jesus spit on the man's eyes. Did Jesus have to do this? Holy spit. I will be sure to ask Him one day. Something different happened with this healing. That holy spit let this man see something. This something is way over looked. Jesus was constantly at odds with the traditions of his day. The religious traditions in particular. The Pharasees were like trees. They were rooted deep and did not show signs of moving. They had hard coarse bark to shield them from anything contrary to their beliefs. They were set. Unmoved. Even when a tree dies its trunk and roots take years to break down. Usually we burn the trunk or take a truck and rip it out of the ground when the tree must move immediately. After Jesus let this man see trees walking around, He put His hands on him again giving 20/20 vision. Did this former blind man get the message? Did he live a life of a tree? I hope he actively pursued Christ everyday. I will ask him one day.
Are you a tree? When something is done differently around your faith, do you take a stand and sink your roots down further? Are you open to the concept that God will work in whatever way he wants no matter how stiff and hard you get? Lord help us to uproot ourselves.
